ABSTRACT

In the recent years, the use of complementary and alternative methods in pediatrics has considerably increased, especially for chronic conditions such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis, in which the pain may be a significant problem. The increased interest in complementary and alternative medicine approaches for pain symptoms in pediatric as well as in adult population has focused attention on questions of safety and efficacy. The pursuit of safe, efficacious and cost-effective interventions for chronic pain in children suffering from juvenile arthritis that may be used in place of, or in concert with conventional medical approaches is a worthy goal that should be undertaken with the highest degree of scientific rigor. We need to think creatively and differently in order to educate the medical profession as well as the general public to change their attitude.
