Ethical principles and Plagiarism

  • Manuscripts are published on the understanding that they are original contributions and do not contain data that have been published elsewhere or are under consideration by another journal. Scientific misconduct in research and non-research articles includes data fabrication, data falsification and duplicate.
  • It is author's obligation to notify the publisher if discovers an error in his own published article.
  • Plagiarism is scientific misconduct and represents the appropriation of the language, ideas, or thoughts of another without crediting their true source. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is forbidden. Self-plagiarism refers to the practice of an author using portions of their previous writings on the same topic in another of their publications, without specifically citing it formally in quotes.
By submitting the manuscript, the authors give full permission to the publisher to verify it for plagiarism by any means.
Amaltea Medical Publishing House (AMPH) uses iThenticate for plagiarism check.
  • For every submitted manuscript, the authors are responsible for disclosing any financial and/or personal relationships that might bias their work.
To prevent ambiguity, authors must state explicitly whether potential conflicts do or do not exist. Authors should do so in the manuscript on a conflict of interest notification page that follows the title page, providing additional detail, if necessary, in a cover letter that accompanies the manuscript. The publisher wishes to make the following clarification: the existence of a conflict of interests does not invalidate the publication of a manuscript. It just has to be mentioned in the conflict-of-interest page and/or in the intention letter.
  • The authors should state in the Materials and Methods section of the main text that experiments have been performed in compliance with the ethical principles of the assigned institutional board or national committee.
  • It is the author’s responsibility to carefully protect the patients’ anonymity and to verify that any experimental investigation with human subjects reported in the submission was performed with informed consent and following all the guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects required by the institution(s) with which all the authors are affiliated with. For photographs that may reveal the identity of the patients, signed releases of the patient or of his/her legal representative should be enclosed. When reporting experiments on human subjects, indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional) and with the Helsinki Declaration (JAMA 2000;284:3043-3049).

Conflict of Interest
Romanian Journal of Pediatrics (RJP) requires a conflict-of-interest statement or conflict of interest disclosure form from a submitting or publishing author.

Conflicts of interest arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that are not fully apparent and that may influence their judgments on what is published. They have been described as those which, when revealed later, would make a reasonable reader feel misled or deceived.

Reviewers
To ensure that the review process is free of conflicts:

  • Editors should ensure that reviewers are free of conflict of interest with respect to an author.
  • Reviewers should contact the editorial office to declare any potential conflicts of interest in advance of refereeing an article.

Minor conflicts do not disqualify a reviewer from reporting on an article but will be taken into account when considering the referees’ recommendations.

Authors
All authors and co-authors are required to disclose any potential conflict of interest when submitting their article (e.g., employment, consulting fees, research contracts, stock ownership, patent licenses, advisory affiliations, etc.). If the article is subsequently accepted for publication, this information should be included in the end section.

Editors
Editors should not make any editorial decisions or get involved in the editorial process if they have any conflicts of interest (financial or otherwise) for a submitted manuscript.

An editor may have conflicts of interest if a manuscript is submitted from their own academic department or from their institution in such situations; they should have explicit policies for managing it.

When editors submit their own work to their journal, a colleague in the editorial office should manage the manuscript and the editor/author should recuse himself or herself from discussion and decisions about it.

Human and Animal Rights
All research must have been carried out within an appropriate ethical framework. If there is suspicion that work has not taken place within an appropriate ethical framework, Editors will follow may reject the manuscript, and/or contact the author(s)’ ethics committee. On rare occasions, if the Editor has serious concerns about the ethics of a study, the manuscript may be rejected on ethical grounds, even if approval from an ethics committee has been obtained.

  • Articles conducting any animal or clinical studies should contain a statement in accordance with the animal and human ethics committee.
  • Research should be carried out in a manner that animals do not get affected unnecessarily.
  • Registration is required for all clinical trials.

Informed consent
Any research article describing a study involving humans should contain this statement. Please add: “Informed consent was obtained from all subjects involved in the study.” OR “Patient consent was waived due to REASON (please provide a detailed justification).” OR “Not applicable” for studies not involving humans. You might also choose to exclude this statement if the study did not involve humans.

Any form of registration that may identify a patient should be excluded from the content of the paper.

For all manuscripts that include details, images, or videos relating to individual participants, written informed consent for the publication of these must be obtained from the participants (or their parent or legal guardian in the case of children under 18) and a statement to this effect should appear in the manuscript. If the participant has died, then consent for publication must be sought from the next of kin of the participant. This documentation must be made available to Editors on request, and will be treated confidentially. In cases where images are entirely unidentifiable and there are no details on individuals reported within the manuscript, consent for publication of images may not be required. The final decision on whether consent to publish is required lies with the Editor.

The Editors reserve the right to reject a paper on ethical grounds.

Copyright Policy
It is considered that the manuscripts sent to the redaction of the Romanian Journal of Pediatrics (RJP) are addressed in exclusive submission to this journal, become its property and that the information in the manuscript has been reviewed by all authors which have all agreed with the submission of the article in the form in which it was submitted. Authors must cite the original sources within the references and below the reprinted material. Copyright will be assigned to the publisher/journal.
